Prohibition had inspired the du Ponts to create storage for wine that might last the rest of their lives. A dozen or so closets\, cellars\, and storage areas were located across the then-2\,000 acre estate. \nEnjoy insights into the history of wine at Winterthur with Leslie B. Grigsby\, senior curator of ceramics and glass\, who will present an overview of how wine was acquired\, traded\, and enjoyed in America and Britain during the 1700s and early 1800s. Then\, winemaker Virginia Mitchell will discuss the harvest and explain the intricate winemaking process from vine to bottle.
